Dr Johnston graduated in 2003 from Queens University Belfast (QUB) and undertook post graduate registrar training in Endocrinology, Diabetes as well as Internal Medicine in N Ireland.
He completed his MD thesis through QUB in 2011. Prior to commencing his consultant appointment in 2013, he undertook a one year clinical research fellowship in the department for Endocrinology & Diabetes at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. Since 2014, Dr Johnston works as a full time consultant in endocrinology, diabetes and internal medicine at the Belfast Trust-Royal Victoria and Belfast City hospitals. He has a keen interest in teaching and is active in research.
